Back In The Day
I remember 1981 like it was yesterday. That was my freshman year at the University of Florida, and when I "studied" to become an astronaut (since the launch of the first space shuttle Columbia that summer). Every day was the same, a little bit of school, a lot more partying. Wake up whenever, and if I felt like going to class I would crawl out of bed, throw on some jeans and an old T-shirt, slip on my vans, grab my skateboard and make my way. Cruising to class down those old brick streets under the oak trees with the Spanish Moss draping from them, and breathing the most crisp of air has to be one of my favorite memories. While sitting in my huge classes listening to some old professor talk and scrape the blackboard, everything but schoolwork was on my mind. Such as girls, beer, or Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker's big hit "The Waiting." A native to Gainesville, and actually worked for the university at one point, Tom Petty was a very popular artist there. Since the personal computer was just coming out and cell phones were non-existent, there wasn't much to keep us busy during the day. So back in my dorm, my door stayed open for new friends and I would pass time by playing the guitar and listening to my best vinyls. After dinner I meet up with my crew and we decide witch soiree we would attend that night. Pass out some where and wake up the next day and do it all over again.

ReplyDeleteI almost forgot about how much partying there would be as apposed to actual studying, but yeah atleast the way we commute to class still hasn't changed still take the longboard everyday.
